Fiberite announced that they have passed their product testing on all of their composite manhole covers. We are very excited about the test results says CEO Corné Visser. Our test results are one of the things that differentiate us from our competitors.
For example, we tested our B125 (125kN) covers up to 160kN without any failure. We achieved this with a lid thickness of only 21mm. A very important aspect that we must take into account is that a manhole cover must be able to withstand the maximum load of a specific load rating for 30 seconds without failing, to pass the test. We applied the maximum load for 10 minutes without any failure or cracks. This is a remarkable breakthrough for us and the first composite manhole manufacturer in the world to achieve this. We can now confidently say that our covers outperform cast iron manhole covers.
But has the time and cost spent developing the composite manhole covers paid off? According to Visser, it has in several ways, including differentiation. “Technology is one of our unique selling points and shows our competence to produce a high-tech composite manhole cover using a completely different process.” He adds, “It also helps to show our competitors as well as our customers that we are capable of developing a product from scratch and not just purchasing products from Asia, as so many of the other top companies are doing.”
He concludes. “We consistently innovate on three levels, and all of these levels are important to sustain and grow our business. The first is growth innovation, which transforms a complicated product or idea and simplifies it in order to increase access and affordability. Second is sustaining innovation, in which next-generation products are developed to replace older industry products. And the third is efficiency innovation, which creates and drives efficiencies in our products and services.”
